Specialty Eye Care
Myopia management, orthokeratology, dry eye, keratoconus and scleral lens fitting. These are the cases that need a practice which does them often.
A general optometry practice can identify keratoconus. Fitting a scleral lens on that cornea so the patient sees well and stays comfortable all day is a different skill, and it is built through volume and iteration rather than through equipment alone.
The same is true of myopia management. Prescribing a stronger lens each year is straightforward. Measuring axial growth, choosing between orthokeratology, atropine and peripheral-defocus optics, and then adjusting when the numbers say the treatment is underperforming is a programme, not an appointment.
These are the services patients travel across the valley for, and they are the reason we have kept a two-patient-per-hour schedule for thirty years. Specialty work does not fit into a fifteen-minute slot.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral for specialty care?
No. You can book directly. If you have been seen elsewhere, bringing previous records and any corneal topography helps, but it is not required and we can repeat the measurements.
Will my insurance cover specialty contact lenses?
It depends on the plan and the diagnosis. Medically necessary contact lenses, which is how lenses for keratoconus and irregular corneas are usually classified, are often covered differently from elective lenses. We verify your specific benefits and tell you the cost in writing before we order anything.
How far do patients travel to see you?
Regularly from across the valley, including Scottsdale, Gilbert, Queen Creek and Maricopa, and occasionally from outside it. For a routine annual exam we would tell you to see someone closer. For a specialty lens fit, the fitter's experience is what you are actually buying.
