Why Choose Us
Why Choose Arizona's Vision
The differences that actually change your appointment, rather than the ones that sound good on a website.
Almost every optometry practice claims to care about patients. It is not a differentiator, because nobody claims the opposite. So here are the specific, checkable things that are actually different about coming here, including where we are not the right choice.
Two patients an hour
This is the most important thing on the page. We schedule two patients an hour. A high-volume retail optical chain typically schedules four to six, and some run higher.
That is not a small operational detail. It is roughly a third of the revenue per chair, and it is a deliberate decision that costs the practice real money every single day. What it buys is time: time to take a proper history, time to do binocular testing rather than only a refraction, time to look at the retina carefully, and time to explain what we found in language that makes sense.
The most common feedback we get is some version of finally understanding what is going on with my eyes. That is not because our doctors are uniquely gifted communicators. It is because they had twenty-five minutes instead of eight.
Independent and doctor-owned
Dr. Page founded this practice in 1994 and it has never been sold to a chain or a private equity group. That matters in one specific way: nobody sets a sales quota for our doctors.
In a corporate optical setting, the doctor and the optical dispensary frequently answer to the same revenue targets. We are not going to pretend that always corrupts clinical judgement, because it usually does not. But the incentive exists, and here it does not. When we tell you high-index lenses are not worth it for your prescription, or that you do not need blue light filtering, or that a closer practice would serve you fine for a routine exam, there is nothing pushing against saying that.
Thirty years in one place
We have been at 15215 S 48th St Ste 180 since 1994. Continuity is worth more in eye care than in most fields, because so much of what we look for is change over time.
A retinal image from this year compared against one from four years ago tells you something no single examination can. An optic nerve that has been stable for a decade is a different situation from one that looks the same but has no history. When you have seen the same eyes across twenty years, you notice things.
It also means we have cared for three generations of some Ahwatukee families, which is a genuinely satisfying thing about working in one neighbourhood for this long.
Specialty work we actually do often
Scleral lens fitting, orthokeratology and myopia management are services where the practitioner's volume genuinely determines the outcome. Fitting a scleral lens on a keratoconic cornea is an iterative craft, and a practice that does two a year is not going to match one that does them constantly.
We have been fitting specialty lenses since the 1990s. Patients drive from Scottsdale, Queen Creek and beyond for that specifically, and they should not have to for a routine exam.
When we are not the right choice
We would rather tell you this than have you disappointed.
If price is your primary concern, a retail optical chain will beat us on a basic pair of glasses, and we are not going to match it. Our value is in the exam and the fitting, and that costs more to deliver.
If you live in the far west valley and want a routine annual exam, the drive does not make sense. Find someone good and close. We say this to patients regularly.
And if you want same-hour walk-in service with no appointment, we are not set up for that, precisely because we protect the schedule. The exception is genuine eye emergencies, where we hold same-day slots.
Things we deliberately do not do
A list of absences says as much about a practice as a list of features.
We do not run promotional pricing on eye examinations. Discounting the exam and recovering it on the eyewear is a common model and it distorts the clinical conversation, because the doctor's recommendation stops being independent of what you buy afterward.
We do not sell products from the exam chair. Frame and lens conversations happen in the optical with an optician, after the clinical part is finished, which keeps the two decisions separate.
We do not publish a star rating on this site unless it matches the current verifiable figure on our Google Business Profile. Structured data that overstates a rating is both dishonest and a policy violation, and the number moves constantly.
We do not run an aggressive recall or upsell programme. You get a reminder when your exam is due and that is the extent of it.
The practical things
- Free ground-level parking directly outside, with accessible spaces and step-free entry
- Three optometrists, so you can request the doctor whose focus matches your needs
- Vietnamese spoken by Dr. Nguyen
- Optomap retinal imaging, so most patients avoid dilation and can drive straight afterward
- Same-day appointments held for eye emergencies
- Free frame adjustments and cleaning for the life of your glasses, no appointment needed
- We verify your insurance benefits before your visit rather than after
- Records kept for winter visitors so you are not starting over each season
Frequently asked questions
Are you more expensive than a retail optical chain?
For a basic pair of glasses, generally yes, and we are straightforward about that. Our exam takes longer and our fitting is more thorough, and that costs more to deliver. For specialty contact lens work the comparison usually goes the other way, because the alternative is often a fitting that does not succeed.
Do you take my insurance?
We work with VSP, EyeMed, Avesis, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medicare, Aetna, Cigna and other plans. Call us with your details and we will verify your specific benefits before your appointment.
How far ahead do I need to book?
Usually a few days to a week for a routine exam. We hold same-day slots for eye emergencies, so call us if something has happened to your eye rather than waiting.
Can I request a specific doctor?
Yes, and we encourage it if you have a preference or a specific need. Tell us when you book. If you are coming for something specific, we will suggest the doctor whose focus matches it.
