Careers at Arizona's Vision
An independent practice where the schedule protects the work, not the other way round.
Most optical jobs come with a target. Frames sold, add-ons attached, patients through the chair. We do not run that way, and it is the main reason people who join tend to stay.
What it is actually like here
We see 2 patients an hour. That is roughly a third of the throughput of a high-volume optical chain, and it is a deliberate decision that costs the practice money. What it buys, for staff as much as patients, is the ability to do the job properly rather than at speed.
There are no sales quotas. Our opticians recommend the lens they think is right, including recommending against upgrades, and nobody reviews their attachment rate. That sounds like a small thing and it changes the whole texture of the work.
It is a small team in one building, so everybody knows everybody and there is nowhere to hide from a bad day. That suits some people and not others, and we would rather you know before applying.
Roles we hire for
- Optometrists, including new graduates. We have three doctors and we mentor properly rather than throwing people at a full book
- Opticians and optical technicians, both experienced and trainee
- Contact lens technicians, particularly anyone interested in specialty and scleral fitting
- Front desk and patient coordinators
- Insurance and billing specialists
What we look for
- Genuine interest in getting things right rather than getting them done
- Willingness to explain things to patients in plain language
- Comfort saying you do not know something and finding out
- Reliability, because a small team feels every absence
- Spanish or Vietnamese language skills are a real asset given our patient base
- Optical or clinical experience helps, and we do train the right person from scratch
How our hiring process works
We keep it short and we tell you where you stand at each step, because a drawn-out process with no communication is a bad experience and it is entirely avoidable.
You send a resume and a short note. We read everything and we reply either way, usually within a week. If there is a fit, we invite you in for a conversation rather than a formal interview panel, because a small team either works together or it does not and that is easier to assess in a normal conversation.
For clinical and optical roles we usually ask you to spend part of a day with us, seeing how the practice actually runs. That is as much for you as for us. A two-patients-an-hour schedule and no sales targets sounds appealing in a job description, and you should see whether the reality suits how you like to work.
We then make a decision quickly. We do not keep candidates waiting while we see whether someone better appears.
What the job actually involves
No evenings and no weekends. The practice is open Monday to Friday and closed at weekends, which is unusual in optical and is consistently the thing people mention as making the biggest difference to their lives.
Time to do the work properly. Our schedule means opticians can take proper measurements rather than rushing them, and technicians are not moving patients through at a pace that makes errors likely.
Genuine training. We would rather hire someone reliable and curious and teach them the optical side than hire experience and hope for the attitude. If you are willing to learn, we will teach you.
And a small team where what you do is visible. That cuts both ways, and for most people who join it is the reason they stay.
Who tends to do well here
The people who thrive in this practice have a few things in common, and they are not the things a resume shows.
They are comfortable saying they do not know something and then finding out. In a practice where doctors take twenty-five minutes with a patient, nobody is impressed by confident guessing, and a technician or optician who checks rather than assumes is worth a great deal.
They can explain things without condescending. A large part of what we do is translating clinical findings into language a worried parent or an eighty-year-old can act on, and that skill is spread across the whole team rather than being the doctor's job alone.
They are reliable. A small team feels every absence directly, and there is no depth of bench to absorb it. That is the honest downside of a practice this size and it is worth knowing before you apply.
And they are comfortable without a target to hit. Some people find a sales quota motivating and genuinely miss the structure it provides. If that is you, this is probably not the right practice for you, and we would far rather say so plainly at the outset than have you discover it three months into the job.

Frequently asked questions
Do you have any open positions right now?
Open roles are listed on this page when we have them. If nothing is listed we are not actively recruiting, but we do keep strong speculative applications on file. Email service@arizonasvision.com.
Do you take new graduate optometrists?
Yes. With three doctors we can mentor properly rather than handing a new graduate a full book on day one. If you are finishing your OD and interested in specialty contact lens work in particular, get in touch.
Do you hire without optical experience?
For front desk and some technician roles, yes, and we train. What we cannot train is reliability and genuine interest in patients, so lead with those.
What are the hours?
The practice is open Mon to Thu 9am to 6pm, Fri 8am to 5pm and closed at weekends. No evenings, no Sundays, no bank holiday rotas. That is unusual in optical, where evening and weekend cover is close to standard, and it is consistently the thing our team mentions as making the biggest difference to their lives outside work.
