Our Process

What to Expect

Every step from booking to follow-up, so you know what is happening and what it costs before you arrive.

Nobody enjoys arriving at a medical appointment not knowing how long it will take, what it will cost, or what is about to happen to them. Here is the whole sequence.

1. Booking and insurance verification

Book online or call us. We will ask what you are coming in for, because that determines how much time to allocate and which doctor to schedule you with.

We then verify your insurance before your appointment rather than at the front desk when you arrive. If your plan does not cover something, or if a service will bill to medical insurance rather than your vision plan, you find out beforehand. Being told about an unexpected charge after a service has been performed is a bad experience and it is entirely avoidable.

2. Before your visit

  • Bring your medical insurance and vision plan cards
  • Bring your current glasses, and any older pairs you still use
  • Bring contact lens boxes showing brand, power and base curve if you wear lenses
  • Bring a list of all medications, including over-the-counter
  • Bring any eye drops you use regularly
  • Bring sunglasses in case dilation is needed
  • New patients can download and complete our forms in advance, which saves ten minutes at the desk

3. Arrival

Free ground-level parking directly outside with accessible spaces, and step-free entry to the office. Arrive about ten minutes early if you have forms to complete.

We run close to schedule. That is the practical benefit of not overbooking, and it is why we protect the two-per-hour rule as firmly as we do.

4. Pre-testing

A technician takes initial measurements before you see the doctor: an objective starting point for your prescription, eye pressure, and where appropriate Optomap retinal imaging.

Optomap captures over eighty percent of your retina in under a second with no dilating drops, which is why most of our patients drive themselves home and go straight back to work.

5. The examination

This is the part that takes the time. Your doctor starts with a genuine conversation about your vision, health, work, screen use and family history, because that shapes everything that follows.

Then refraction to determine your exact prescription, binocular vision testing to see how your eyes work together, and a full eye health examination under the slit lamp covering the lids, cornea, lens and tear film, followed by assessment of the retina, macula and optic nerve.

6. Findings and plan

Your doctor goes through what they found and what it means. If we imaged your retina, we bring it up on screen and show you. Most people have never seen their own retina, and it changes the conversation entirely.

You leave with a written prescription, a clear explanation of any findings, and a specific plan with a stated follow-up interval rather than a vague suggestion to come back sometime.

7. Optical, if you need eyewear

If you need glasses, we take your facial measurements first and then show you frames that will actually work with your prescription and your face. That order round makes the process much faster and produces a better result than browsing a wall of six hundred frames.

We specify lens material, index, coatings and design with the reasoning explained, including telling you when an upgrade is not worth your money. Then we take the full fitting measurements in the frame you chose.

8. Collection and aftercare

We call when your glasses are ready. At collection we verify the lenses match what was ordered, fit the frame precisely to your face, and check that you are seeing well through them.

Adjustments, nose pads, screws and cleaning are free for the life of the glasses. No appointment, no charge. If the fit drifts, walk in.

If something is not right

Occasionally a pair of glasses is not right, a contact lens is uncomfortable, or a prescription needs revisiting. We would much rather you told us than adapted around it, and we would rather you told us early.

Bring the glasses in. We verify the lenses against what was ordered, check the fitting measurements, and re-adjust the frame, which resolves the majority of complaints because most of them are fit rather than prescription. If the prescription genuinely needs revising, we recheck it at no charge.

For contact lenses, if comfort drops off through the day or the vision is not stable, that is a fitting question rather than something to endure. Material, base curve and modality can all be changed, and trying a different lens is part of the fitting rather than a new service.

None of this requires a complaint or a difficult conversation. Call the office, say what is not working, and we will book you in.

9. Follow-up

For routine care, we remind you when your next annual exam is due. For contact lens fittings, specialty lenses or any condition being monitored, we schedule the follow-up before you leave rather than leaving it to chance.

If something changes between visits, call. We hold same-day appointments for urgent eye problems, and we would much rather see you early for something that turns out to be nothing than late for something that was not.

Frequently asked questions

How long will my appointment take?

A comprehensive exam is typically 45 to 60 minutes. Add 20 to 30 minutes if you are selecting eyewear afterward. Contact lens fittings take longer, and specialty lens fittings considerably longer.

Will I know the cost before I commit?

Yes. We verify your insurance before your visit and tell you what is covered and what is not. For eyewear and specialty lenses we give you the full cost in writing before anything is ordered.

Will I be able to drive home?

Yes if you have Optomap imaging rather than dilation, which is most patients. If you are dilated, expect three to four hours of light sensitivity and blurred near vision. We tell you in advance which applies.

What if I need to reschedule?

Call us as early as you can. Because we schedule only two patients an hour, a late cancellation is a slot that could have gone to someone waiting, so advance notice genuinely helps.

Book an appointment with a doctor who has time for you

We schedule 2 patients an hour, so your exam is unhurried and your questions get answered. Most patients are seen within a few days.
